Our patient Melissa was thrilled when we completed her dental veneers treatment—she loved her veneers smile. She loved it so much, that she wanted to make sure that it didn’t wear down prematurely or become damaged. Our O’Fallon cosmetic dentists explained to Melissa that with some thoughtful care, she could keep her smile in great shape for years. Read on to learn what Melissa does to care for her dental veneers…
To fight discoloration and to keep her dental roots and gum tissue healthy, Melissa brushes her veneers twice a day and flosses at least once day. Essentially, she applies her dental routine for her natural teeth to her porcelain veneers. She also comes in to our office for her regular professional cleaning every 6 months. At this appointment we’re able to clean her veneers thoroughly, and check her restorations for any sings of damage.
She also watched what she chews on and how she eats certain foods. She used to regularly chew ice, but cut it out of her diet because this habit can crack veneers. She also makes sure not to open bags or wrappers with her teeth, or eat nuts and seeds with her front teeth. She also uses her back teeth to chew any tough or abrasive foods—this protects her veneers on her front teeth.
Because porcelain veneers are naturally stain resistant, it is possible to keep a white smile for years. With some diligent self-care and professional treatment, your veneers can stay strong for over ten years.
Melissa follows these simple steps to keep her veneers strong and looking great. Now five years later she still loves to see her smile in the mirror every morning! Our O’Fallon dental office helps her maintain the smile of her dreams, and we can help you get the smile you want as well!
